Rex Racing Team is comprised of a Mother/Daughter kart racing team. We have just finished our rookie season. Bethany finished 1st place in Powder Puff and tied for 5th place in KT100+30. Jessica finished 4th place in Jr. 1 2-cycle novice (one 1st place finish and two 2nd place finishes before moving up to the next class), 10th place in Jr. 1 2-cycle (in two races), and 5th place in Jr. Sportsman (in two races). We had an awesome first year!
We had a great first race! Bethany finished 4th in KT100+30 (3rd place in points) and Jessica came in 6th in Junior Sportsman (6th place in points)! Jim made his début in kart racing and took 10th place in Formula One Shifters (3rd place in points)! We have now moved into the year of the Mother/Daughter/Father racing team. Having three karts on the track is definitely keeping us busy. Many thanks to our crew, Salvador Nuñez and his son Fernando, for all their help on race day! Without them it would have been chaos trying to keep three karts race ready.
We've Just Completed Race Two...And it was an awesome day for Bethany! Finishing in 3rd after leading the first six laps of the race, Bethany is now in 2nd place for championship points. After having a few engine problems and missing her second heat race, Jessica started the main in 9th place. She had a great run with some stiff competition finishing in 7th. This race put Jessica tied for 5th place in championship points. Unfortunately Jim didn't get much track time at this race. He lost his engine early in the practice sessions. That didn't slow Jim down though, it just sent him into Crew Chief mode. Jim and Salvador made sure the other two karts had a good run in the main event! Awesome work!
Jessica was having a high performance day with fast times of 56+ seconds per lap. In the main event her muffler blew off at the start of the race. While leaving the track Brennan Newberry's kart slid in front of Jessica's causing her to drive over the top of his tire which spun him around then he drove over Jessica's kart. After all the excitement Jessica walked off the track in last place moving her into 8th place in championship points.
Bethany started the main in 4th place. Halfway through the race Larry Fisher #23 spun out forcing Zac Griffin #11 into a slide that caused him to drive over the back of Bethany's kart. As he slid back down his kart caught the top of her muffler and pulled a hole in it. She earned a second place finish but was dropped back to last place points because of the muffler. This put Bethany in 3rd place for championship points.
Jim still isn't racing due to motor problems and he has moved into 7th place for championship points. Many thanks to our crew, Jim and Salvador, and our sponsor Rexhall Motorhomes!
Race Four...
We must have left our lucky coins at home for this race! Though the karts were running very strong, both Jessica and Bethany were out of the race after the first few laps of the main.
During a practice session, #29 Sheldon Crouse tried to pass Jessica, but drove over her shoulder and left arm/wrist instead. The ambulance brought her in and since Jessica said she didn't have any feeling between her elbow and her hand the EMT put a splint on her arm thinking it may have been broken. Jessica borrowed a wrist brace from David Laycook and was back to racing by the first heat! In the main, a driver locked up in front of Kevin Callahan and Jessica in a turn and they slowed, but it wasn't enough. Kevin managed to hang in there, but Jessica bounced off and spun off the track leaving her to watch the race from the infield. Jessica has moved up into 7th place for championship points.
In the KT100 +30 class, on the first lap an incident caused Daroll Green to drive almost completely off the track and without checking for traffic he came back on at a 45 degree angle directly in front of Greg Alvarado and Bethany causing both to impact. The crash left Bethany's kart sitting crossways directly on top of Greg's kart. No injuries, but lots of disappointment and frustration. This accident bumped Bethany back to 4th place in championship points.
Jim didn't have any better luck. He was finally able to get his engine repaired from the second race and get back on the track, but on the third lap of practice his motor seized again. Jim still maintains his 7th place for championship points.
Many thanks to our sponsor Bill Rex, president of Rexhall Motorhomes, for coming out to watch the race and cheer on our efforts. Wish we could have given you a better show! Special thanks to our crew Jim Rex and Salvador Nuñez for all the work they did out there!
Jessica didn't race due to illness and Jim still didn't have a motor to race with. This dropped Jessica back to 8th and Jim still maintains 7th place for championship points.
This month Rexhall Motorhomes supplied us with a "Harley Davidson" coach while repairs were being made on our T-Rex. Many thanks to our sponsor, Rexhall Motorhomes!
This race was almost a repeat of last month! Bethany again came in 3rd and 4th in the heats and after an awesome run with 12 other drivers, finished in 4th place again. Bethany still has 4th place for championship points.
Jessica is still out due to illness and is still in 8th place.
Jim has decided that trying to keep three karts on the track is too hectic and will go back to being the wonderful crew chief for his lady drivers. He is giving up his place on the track and will be selling his shifter kart. Anybody looking for a Formula One 125cc shifter kart?
Many thanks to Rexhall Motorhomes for the quick repairs to our sponsored T-Rex RoseAir! We had it back in plenty of time for this race.
Our next race will be on Saturday,
January 29th at Buttonwillow Raceway Park in Buttonwillow, California. If you
